Circular Monday

Circular Monday – A step towards a circular future

Circular Monday was founded 2017 in Malmö, Sweden by Henning Gillberg as a counter movement to Black Friday.  It’s an international initiative which pays attention to companies and organizations who work for a more sustainable and circular economy. It occurs on the Monday before Black Friday- as a counterweight to the wear and tear culture, and aims to inspire smarter consumption, resource-efficient production and long-term value creation.

This is of course something Modulpac wants to be a part of, both internally and together with our partner Rondo Plast.

Cooperation with Rondo Plast – From waste to new raw material

Modulpac has several different standard colours, but also unique for some customers. Because of that we need to do “colour cleaning” in the machines when we change colours. It’s the same procedure when we change materials as well. To make sure that no material goes to waste we do have a cooperation with Rondo Plast, a leading actor in recycling technical plastics. Rondo Plast receive and refines production waste and converts it to high quality recycled compound materials.

On this picture you’ll see our shattered waste material that we send to Rondo Plast for it to get a new life as recycled compound material. You can also see an example of how it looks when we change colour from black to transparent.

The waste material that Modulpac can’t reuse become a valuable raw material in other products – instead of going to combustion. In that way we will decrease the amount of waste and our climate footprint, and at the same time contribute to a more resource efficient plastic usage.

The cooperation with Rondo Plast is a concrete example of how circularity works in practice – where waste products get a new life and creates a value in a new context.

Modulpac’s sustainability work

Our aim is to take responsibility for the entire life cycle in our production – from raw material to finished product and the waste that occurs in between.

Our sustainability work includes several areas:

  • Cooperations – We focus on competence exchange, the transition to more sustainable materials, as well as the development of return systems and transparent reporting.
  • R&D – Our products are designed for high quality and function, with focus on atomization and degree of refinement in our own production. Our aim is to use more sustainable and energy efficient materials and to make sure that our products are fully recyclable..
  • Energy efficient production – Our modern machines and process is optimized for low energy consumption and minimized waste. We reuse the cooling water in our production to warm up our facilities.
  • Waste – We minimize our waste by recycling and reusing our production waste.
  • Logistics – We cooperate with local subcontractors to reduce transport distance. Our optimized packaging methods ensure resource-efficient deliveries, together with a great deal of intern and automized assembling contributes to increased efficiency and reduced need for external handling.

Circular Monday reminds us that every choice counts – both in production and consumption. By cooperations, sharing knowledge thinking in the long-term, we can create a real difference.
